This summer, the Schoenbaum Center was fortunate to be a part of a visit of some of the income freshman class at Washington and Lee University. The students worked with Charleston Child Care and Learning Center to help build a colorful community garden on-site at the Schoenbaum Center as part of the university’s efforts to increase service-learning projects and encourage giving back among its students with its program Volunteer Venture.
Volunteer Venture visits seven communities each year, including Charleston. While in West Virginia, the program strives to give back to the community and learn about its culture, specifically coal mining and issues Appalachian communities face.
